About Video to GIF Converter
This free tool converts a clip from any video into an animated GIF using FFmpeg.wasm running entirely in your browser. GIFs work everywhere โ in emails, chat apps, social media, and websites โ without needing video player support.
Tips for best results: Keep clips under 10 seconds for manageable file sizes. Use 12 fps for smooth but compact GIFs. Lower width (320-480px) keeps file sizes small. GIFs can get large quickly โ a 10-second, 480px, 15fps GIF can be 5-15MB.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are GIF files so large?+
GIF uses an old compression format (LZW from 1987) that's far less efficient than modern video codecs. A 5-second video clip can become a 3-10MB GIF. Keep clips short and width small for manageable sizes.
What frame rate should I use?+
12 fps gives a smooth but compact GIF. 8 fps is more "choppy" but much smaller. 24 fps looks great but produces very large files. For most uses, 10-12 fps is the sweet spot.
Why does my GIF look washed out or low colour?+
GIF only supports 256 colours per frame. Videos with gradients and many colours will lose quality. For better colour fidelity, use shorter clips with simpler colour palettes.
What is the maximum clip duration?+
We limit to 15 seconds to keep GIF file sizes manageable. For longer animations, consider using WebP animation or a short video clip instead.
