What is a PDF Booklet?
A booklet is a small book made by folding printed A4 sheets in half to get A5-sized pages. To make the pages appear in the correct reading order after folding, the pages must be rearranged before printing — this is called "imposition". This tool does the imposition automatically.
For example, for an 8-page booklet using 2 sheets: Sheet 1 front shows Page 8 (left) and Page 1 (right). Sheet 1 back shows Page 2 (left) and Page 7 (right). After printing, stacking, folding and stapling — all pages appear in correct order 1 through 8.
All processing is done in your browser — your PDF is never sent to any server.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my printer is duplex?+
Check your printer's print dialog — if it shows an option for "Print on both sides" or "Two-sided printing", it is a duplex printer. Most modern laser printers and many inkjet printers support duplex. Home inkjet printers (like basic HP DeskJet or Canon PIXMA) are usually non-duplex.
Why does my booklet page order look wrong after printing?+
The most common cause is wrong paper flip direction. For duplex printers, make sure to select "Flip on Long Edge". For manual duplex, the flip direction depends on whether your paper feeds from the front or back tray — select the correct printer type above and follow the exact instructions.
What paper size should I use?+
Use A4 paper. Each A4 sheet holds 2 A5 booklet pages side by side. Set print scale to exactly 100% — do NOT select "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit" as this changes the page size.
What if my PDF page count is not a multiple of 4?+
Blank pages are automatically added. A booklet needs pages in multiples of 4 (each sheet = 4 booklet pages). If your PDF has 10 pages, 2 blank pages are added to reach 12. The blanks appear at the end of the booklet.
Can I do a test print before printing all sheets?+
Yes — and it is recommended! Print only Sheet 1 first (page 1 of each PDF file). Fold it and check if the page order is correct. If it looks right, print the remaining sheets.
