About FD Calculator

This free FD calculator helps you calculate the maturity amount and interest for a Fixed Deposit. Enter principal, interest rate and tenure to instantly see how much your FD will be worth at maturity. It also shows TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) if interest exceeds โ‚น40,000 per year (โ‚น50,000 for senior citizens).

Most banks in India compound FD interest quarterly. The effective annual rate (EAR) with quarterly compounding is slightly higher than the nominal rate. Senior citizens typically get 0.25โ€“0.75% extra interest over regular FD rates.

Note: Rates shown are indicative for 2025. Check your bank directly for exact current rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TDS on FD interest?+
If FD interest in a financial year exceeds โ‚น40,000 (โ‚น50,000 for senior citizens), the bank deducts TDS at 10%. Submit Form 15G/15H if your total income is below taxable limit to avoid TDS.
Which bank has the highest FD rate in India?+
Small finance banks like AU, Jana, Equitas and Ujjivan typically offer 8โ€“9% FD rates. NBFC deposits can offer even higher rates but carry more risk. Large banks like SBI, HDFC offer 6.5โ€“7.5%.
What is the best FD tenure?+
1โ€“3 year FDs often offer the best rates. Very short (below 6 months) and very long (above 5 years) tenures sometimes get slightly lower rates. Check the bank rate card for your target tenure.
Is FD interest taxable?+
Yes. FD interest is fully taxable as "Income from Other Sources" at your applicable income tax slab rate, regardless of TDS deducted. Add it to your ITR every year.
What is the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative FD?+
Cumulative FD pays interest at maturity (compounded). Non-cumulative FD pays interest monthly/quarterly. Cumulative gives higher final amount due to compounding. This calculator shows cumulative FD returns.
