About English to Tamil Typing Tool

This free online Tamil typing tool uses Google Input Tools transliteration API to convert phonetically typed English into Tamil (Tamil Script) script. Simply type the way the word sounds in English โ€” for example, type "namaste" to get the Tamil equivalent.

This is called phonetic or transliteration typing โ€” different from translation. The tool converts the sound of English letters into the corresponding Tamil characters. It is the same technology used in Google Docs and Gmail Tamil typing.

Useful for: writing emails in Tamil, social media posts, WhatsApp messages, documents and any platform that accepts Unicode text. The output can be copied and pasted anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I type in Tamil using English keyboard?+
Type the phonetic English spelling of the Tamil word in the left box and click Convert. For example, type "namaste" or "dhanyavaad" and the Tamil equivalent will appear on the right.
Does this work without internet?+
No. This tool uses the Google Input Tools API which requires an internet connection. The API call is made to Google's servers for transliteration.
Can I copy the Tamil text and use it anywhere?+
Yes. The output is standard Unicode Tamil text that works in WhatsApp, Facebook, Gmail, Word, Google Docs and any app that supports Unicode fonts.
Why does some Tamil output look different from what I expected?+
Tamil has many sounds that do not exist in English, so phonetic spelling can vary. Try alternate spellings โ€” for example "zh" for the Tamil "เฎด" sound (e.g. "Tamizh" for เฎคเฎฎเฎฟเฎดเฏ). Google Input Tools picks the most likely match.
Is this the same as Google Tamil Input?+
Yes, this uses the same Google Input Tools transliteration API that powers Google's own Tamil typing in Docs and Gmail.
